Tales of New Camelot
The Umbral Domains site has some nice fixes for Changeling and I’m adopting their revisions of the Primal Art, reproduced below:
● Willow Whisper
As suggested by its name this power requires the caster to whisper in order to work.
Alternative: The Willow Whisper cantrip need not involve an actual “whisper” on the part of the caster in order to work. In fact it need not be an actual verbal question at all. However, the caster must give the subject his full attention and loud distractions prevent this.
Using the Time Realm as a Modifier lets the caster extend the duration of this cantrip to last a whole Scene, a whole Story or a whole Chronicle or beyond. However, the cantrip only lets the changeling communicate with a particular creature or object, not all creatures or objects of that type.
●● Eldritch Prime
The Eldritch Prime cantrip seems to imply that the Nature Realm is required for it to work.
Alternative: Eldritch Prime requires a Realm associated with where the element is manifesting. The Realm describes the thing or creature that is damaged or protected by the element:
- Actor – Describes a person who is being covered in fire, water, woods, etc or struck with it
- Fae – Describes a Fae creature being covered in the element or struck with it
- Nature – Describes an animal, plant or natural object being covered with an element or struck with it
- Prop – Describes an item being covered with an element or struck with it
- Scene – can be used as a Modifier Realm to affect multiple targets or by itself to describe an area being covered with an element or struck with it (creature within the area will not be damaged or protected unless Modifier Realms are used)
●●● Oaken Shield
The rules suggest that people and things are covered with oaken bark.
Alternative: This cantrip produces a protective coating but may be of any texture or colour the caster wishes. Some changelings create scales, or metal plates, or bone exoskeletons.
●●●● Heather Balm/Holly Strike
While damage and injury may be healed, certain sorts of diseases and chronic conditions may not be totally “cured” by this treatment. Use the Time Realm to cure chronic conditions, but when the cantrip expires the condition will return.
The rules state damage takes the form of jagged lacerations. Instead, allow damage to take a form representative of the changeling’s style (cuts, bruises, bite marks, burns, frostbite, etc).
Elder-Form is pretty powerful and it can be used on anything or anyone, since the Realm normally just determines the form the person or thing is changed into.
Alternative: The caster instead has to have both the Realm for the target and the Realm for of the thing the target will be transformed into. If you are changing something into a different Realm (eg using Actor and Nature to turn a person into a tree) then the second Realm is a Modifier Realm, requiring a point of Glamour and +1 difficulty. This makes it easier to change things into something of the same Realm.
Using the Time Realm as a Modifier lets the caster extend the duration of this cantrip to last a whole Scene, a whole Story or a whole Chronicle or beyond.
